Sustainability into the Future
The time is ripe for sustainable action. We pay attention to a balanced approach between our economic interests and our ecological commitment. Many measures have already been implemented, and many more we aim to put in place:
With our energy production from renewable energy sources, we reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Since 2022, we have been independent of natural gas and oil. With our biomass heating plant and the associated wood chip storage, we heat our buildings. We fuel this with leftover wood from local forests – without long transport routes – and recycle unused pallets. This way, we reduce our CO2 footprint doubly. Furthermore, we generate electricity for our buildings through combined heat and power. We also plan to equip our company roofs with a photovoltaic system to generate electricity for the production process.
We produce innovatively and sustainably.
We manufacture in Weißenbrunn near the Lucas Cranach town of Kronach according to German environmental standards. For our environment, this means no unnecessary transport around the globe and a centralized and more efficient use of available resources.
We invest in innovative production facilities. Fully automated and modern manufacturing optimizes the consumption of resources, energy, and materials.
Back into the cycle – durability and recycling.
Whether aluminum, steel, stainless steel, HPL, plastic, paper, cardboard, wood, glass, cables, electronic waste, organic waste, and compost – the lifecycle of a product starts with us from the raw material and continues through processing, manufacturing, and transporting the product, as well as during its lifespan.
The lifecycle of a sustainable building product does not end with deconstruction; instead, it forms a closed life cycle: after recycling, we reintegrate the product into a new manufacturing process. LockTec locker solutions are WEEE, REACH, RoHS, and CE compliant. We can recycle all materials. At the end of the product lifecycle, the systems in our plant in Hummendorf are dismantled into their components and returned to the cycle according to applicable standards and procedures.

A world without bees would be unthinkable for our biodiversity and ultimately for our survival. Our own bee colonies are a heartfelt project for us. We take great care of our bees with a focus on sustainability.
The trees of the forest belong to our future.
Our forest is in poor condition. Heat, drought, and the bark beetle have severely affected it in recent years. Many trees are damaged and need to be replanted. Most people are unaware that a healthy tree can produce oxygen for more than ten people. It is the most important ally in the fight for a more climate-friendly CO2 environment.
That’s why we have decided to donate trees for reforestation year after year. It is important to us to help our local forest.
The Franconian Forest needs new trees

In April 2023, we donated over 1000 trees for climate-friendly reforestation in the Franconian Forest. Together with the city of Kronach and the Bavarian State Forests, the responsible partners planted more than 300 sweet chestnuts and over 800 pedunculate oaks, hornbeams, linden trees, and wild pears in the forests near Großvichtach and Fröschbrunn in the Kronach district.
Lockers for a green world
With the initiative “Lockers for a green world”, we offer our LockTec customers a promise:
For every locker system sold, we plant five trees!
The trees are donated in spring and autumn during the traditional planting seasons. We rely on the expertise of local forestry companies that also select the tree species for a sustainable, climate-stable, and ecologically sensible forest.
Awarded the Silver Medal from EcoVadis.
In 2021, LockTec GmbH was awarded the Silver Medal in the field of sustainability by the evaluation organization EcoVadis. As part of our commitment to our society, our fellow humans, and the environment, LockTec underwent a thorough assessment of sustainability practices by EcoVadis, the global standard for sustainability ratings. The EcoVadis assessment covers 21 sustainability criteria across four core areas: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. In the 2021 assessment, we received a Silver Medal with a score of 61, placing LockTec among the top 100 companies worldwide.
